Words you may need to know

 

Residential Status - this means how you are viewed for housing and work purposes

 

Work entitlement - how you are classified (grouped). This will affect who can employ you

 

Essential Employee - this is someone who is needed in the island because of their skills. The employer is given special permission (a licence) to employ them.

Entitled

Someone who has lived in Jersey for 10 years or more

Can work anywhere and the Employer does not need a licence to be employ you

Licenced

Someone who is an essential employee

The Employer needs a licence to employ a licenced person

Entitled to Work

Someone who has lived in Jersey for five years without a break directly before the card is issued, or is married or is a civil partner to someone who is “Entitled” or “Licenced” or “Entitled to Work”.

Can work anywhere and the Employer does not need a licence to be employ you

Registered

Someone who does not fall into the other groups

An Employer needs a licence to employ a “registered” person
