Words you may need to know

Deceased - If someone is deceased, they are dead

Siblings - brother and sisters

Issue of - children of

Pre decease - die before

Inherit - to become the owner of something when someone dies

Paternal - on the fathers side of the family

Maternal - on the mothers side of the family

Crown - This is the Sovereign, or the Queen but the estate would go to the Government.

If the deceased is unmarried

Leaving children

Children share estate in equal parts. If any child dies before the deceased, that child's share goes in equal shares to their children

Leaving no children but leaving siblings or issue of siblings

Brothers and sisters share the estate in equal shares. Half-siblings inherit only half a share.
If any siblings/half-siblings pre-decease the deceased their children inherit that share / half share.

Parents inherit whole estate

Mother deceased
Father living

Father inherits whole estate

Uncles, aunts and / or cousins living

Uncles and aunts share the estate equally, half-uncles/aunts taking half share. If any is deceased then their children inherit that share.

Grandparents living

They inherit everything in the following order:
1. Paternal grandfather
2. Paternal grandmother
3. Maternal grandfather
4. Maternal grandmother

Great uncles / aunts or their issue living

Great uncles and aunts and their issue inherit in equal shares. If any are deceased their issue do NOT inherit the share.
