Words you may need to know
Centenier – a centenier is a member of the Island’s honorary police force. It is the duty of centeniers to charge people if they have committed an offence and in some situations to deal with the case and decide upon the punishment.
Offender – someone who has committed an offence or crime
Custody - being held securely, perhaps in prison or at Police Headquarters if you are being questioned
Jurats - these are people from the community who are appointed to help the courts decide on matter of fact. They sit in on cases in the Royal Court
Restorative - healing or curing. Trying to put things right
