Conciliation and Mediation - this is a friendly way of handling legal disputes where both sides are brought together to try and patch up their differences and reach agreement about something.
Association Aims
The JFLA was established in 1996 by a group of lawyers who wanted to improve the practice of family law in Jersey. It took as its role model the Solicitors' Family Law Association (now renamed Resolution) in the UK. Its aims are;
- to work in a caring way with families
- to be timely, efficient and mindful of costs in the handling of family disputes
- to promote and encourage conciliation and mediation procedures
- the promotion and encouragement of education and training in matters of Family Law and practice.
The Association provides training and education for members with seminars on relevant topics.
Membership
Open to Advocates and Solicitors with two years or more active practice in family law.
Associate membership
Open to less experienced lawyers or any other person approved by the Committee.
