Children and indecent photographs
Extent:Jersey
Updated 10 July 2019
The Protection of Children (Jersey) Law 1994, as amended, makes it a crime to take, have, pass on, show or advertise indecent photographs of minors. A minor is anyone under the age of 18 and indecent means any picture which is rude, offensive, crude or not appropriate.
There is nothing in the Data Protection Law that stops parents taking photographs or video recordings of school plays or at sports days. The police will give advice where parents become worried about people taking photographs and videos without good reason.
